Junior Announcement from the School Nurse-Nurse Kim

Good evening, parents of rising seniors. In the next few weeks your student will be bringing home a letter stating they will need the 2nd meningitis vaccine that is required by North Carolina law for all seniors. They will need to bring a copy of their immunization record as proof that they have received it by the 30th day of school for the 2026/2027 school year. If your student does not have the vaccine on or before the 30th day of school next fall, school year 2026-27, per NC General Statute 130A-155, they will be excluded from school until the vaccine is received. Please schedule an appointment for your child as soon as you can to ensure your student is able to get this vaccine prior to the deadline. If your student has already received the vaccine, please send in the proof of vaccination and disregard any future messages regarding this requirement. Thank you and have a great week. Nurse Kim

Updates for 10th Graders

10th Graders Only-The Pathway Declaration Application is now open and will remain available until Sunday, February 22. You must sign into your Cabarrus College email account to complete and submit the form. Students who do not submit an application by the deadline will have a pathway selected for them by the review committee.

Important Note About Choosing Your Pathway --I’ve heard that some students are planning to “try out” a major because they believe they can easily switch later. While changing your major is possible, it is not always guaranteed and can delay your graduation timeline. Any change of major also goes through an approval process—just like declaring for the first time.

Please make sure the primary and secondary pathways you select on the application truly reflect your interests and goals. Don’t choose a pathway just because your friends are choosing it. This decision needs to be yours—because your name is the one that will be on the degree at the end.

Application Overview -- As part of the application, you will:
  • Select your program of interest and explain your passion for that field.
  • Be evaluated by a committee based on your interests, strengths, and alignment with the program.
  • Have your academic performance, test scores, and SmarterMeasure results reviewed.
Key Academic Indicators -- The review committee will consider:
  • Grades: Performance in 9th and 10th-grade core subjects and health science courses
  • EOC Scores: ENG II, Math I, and Math III
  • College Courses: Final and midterm grades in BIO100, BIO101, CCS105, and HEA110
Essay Questions -- You will respond to three short essays (250 words or less each) about:
  1. Your readiness for the next phase of education, based on your college course performance
  2. What inspired your interest in healthcare
  3. Your passion for a specific healthcare pathway and how it aligns with your long‑term goals
Additional Resources: For more details, please review the
Discovery Day 2026 2.pptx. You can also find curriculum plans, degree checklists, and pathway overview videos in the Early College Student Resource Center on Canvas.

Announcements:

Seniors: Volunteer Hours Reminder - Due March 30
As we prepare for May graduation, this is a reminder about the 15 required volunteer hours. Hours from sophomore year (Fall 2023) and beyond count toward this requirement. All hours must be submitted in the Pro Bono tab in Sonis no later than Monday of Week 12 — March 30th. You must review the Volunteer Handbook to confirm eligible volunteer sites. The handbook also includes an important Social Drivers of Health reflection question, which must be answered as part of your Sonis submission. Please ensure your hours are completed and submitted by the deadline so you remain on track for graduation. Diplomas will be held at graduation if not completed by Week 12.
