Greetings Families,
This week's newsletter contains some important testing information that will change our in-person schedule a bit in October. Please read to find out if your student is impacting by these testing dates.
In addition, we will take our first field trip in a few weeks to UNCC. Students have a permission form for you to complete.
We have also expanded Junior flexing privileges. Please read to find out more about flexing if you are the parent of a Junior. This will start in October.
We will start our recruitment efforts in October for next school year. Please share with neighbors, friends, and coworkers how much you love CHSI and let them know to attend the Program Choice Fair at Cabarrus Arena on October 17th (6pm-8pm)
In partnership,
Ashley Short

Help Us with Student Pickup
|
|
|
|
This is a reminder that parents must come through parent drive at CHSI to pickup students in the afternoon. Please do not park at Cabarrus College and have your student walk over. The college does not allow this and it is a safety issue. We do not want to create an issue in the relationship between the high school and college. We will hold students at parent drive until you come through the line to pick them up. CHSI staff are not trying to be difficult. We are only trying to hold up our agreement with Cabarrus College.
We have cleared out our parent drive line this week by 4:02pm. We will continue dismissing car riders at 3:50 to clear our parent traffic out as much as possible so we can roll busses on time to make it to the depot.

PSAT (optional for Juniors) October 25

|
The PSAT is a great practice opportunity for the SAT. It is also a National Merit Scholar Qualification Test. This is optional for Juniors. Speak with your Junior about this opportunity. If you want your student to participate in the test, complete the form by October 1st. Contact Gina.Shields@cabarrus.k12.nc.us, our testing coordinator, with any questions.

Friday, Juniors that flex were given an updated permission slip that will allow them to flex "in" and "out" during their individual college schedule. We are expanding flex opportunities because of the great job Juniors have done coming into this school year being responsible!
Things to remember:
- Flexing is a privilege
- Being placed on academic probation can result in losing flex privileges
- Students must have viable transportation to flex
- They cannot flex flex in and out multiple times in a school day. When you are out you are not allowed back on campus for the day. This is for safety attendance reporting reasons.
- If a student flexes in past 10am, they will have to complete an online attendance form that day to be counted present prior to 10 am. If they forget they will be counted absent per state reporting laws.

Benchmark Schedules for Students in EOC Courses
|
|
|
Current Juniors were incorrectly given a high school credit for BIO 100 they took last school year. The course gives them college credit, but not high school credit because it was not enough hours. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Robinson.

Message from Mrs. Louallen, Early College Liason

|
I created an Office Hour Calendar for the Fall semester (see attached). I will share this with 10th grade via their CCS105 Canvas Course and all students via the Early College Student Resource Center. While I am teaching CCS105 in the first 7 weeks, I will only one day/time each week for all students (regardless of grade level) to meet with me. Beginning mid-October, I will have office hours three days a week for all students to meet with me. If students need to meet with me outside my designated office hours, they need to schedule a meeting with me using the link in my email signature. My CCS105 office hours Tuesday-Friday from 2-2:30pm will occur at the college (office 127), but I would like to host my Monday office hours in the DEN if possible.
Schedule a Meeting with me:

Liaison Email & Meeting Link
All inquiries from students and parents should be sent to mikahla.louallen@cabarruscollege.edu (not Atrium Health). If students wish to schedule a meeting with the Liaison, an updated link is included below.
9th Grade Forms
Below are the links for the forms that 9th grade students / families were asked to complete by Friday, August 30th, but I am still missing over half the cohort. Until this is complete, I cannot create their college accounts in our system.
Exxat enrollment requirements
11th grade students Exxat requirement were due Friday, August 30th and as of this morning, 23 students are not compliant. Majority of students have not submitted the 2 dose Meningococcal Conjugate (MenACWY) vaccine requirement, which is new this year and was discussed at open house. Others need to have their flu shot updated as this is an annual requirement.
10th graders have until December 15th to submit their Exxat enrollment requirements (15 total). Their accounts are connected to their K12 email address (all accounts have been activated) so it is just a matter of uploading their documents into the portal. Students can access the portal at https://prism.exxat.com/. We hope to plan an EXXAT virtual session soon to answer any questions or concerns that families may have.

Cabarrus College Compliance Modules
We are committed to providing an educational learning and professional working environment for all students and employees that maintains equality, dignity, respect and privacy. Students who are enrolled in at least one college course are required to complete the Cabarrus College of Health Sciences compliance modules via Canvas. These compliance modules are designed to familiarize students and employees with the following federal compliance regulations: Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972, The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Safety & Security. 11th and 10th grade students must complete these modules by Monday, September 30th or a late fee will be placed on their account.

|
|
CCHS Email and Canvas
Students enrolled in college courses should be checking their email and canvas courses at least once if not multiple times a day. I highly encourage students to download the Outlook and Canvas apps on their personal devices so they can easily access information if they need to. If students are having issues logging into their email or canvas accounts for any reason, they need to immediately email support@cabarruscollege.edu.
Early Alerts
Early alerts will be turned in by college faculty on Monday, September 23rd. The early alert allows faculty and staff to identify students with academic concerns after the fourth week of the semester. Students who receive early alerts will be contacted by Mrs. Louallen and instructed to schedule a meeting with her and instructors to discuss available resources and develop a plan for improvement. Early warnings allow the student ample opportunity to correct academic behaviors either before midterm or final grades are assigned.

Our PTO provides a variety of support to our students and staff. To expand their impact, your support is needed.
For those who are interested in joining the PTO, we are asking for each parent to complete the PTO form and pay the one-time fee ($10). There is an electronic option, CheddarUp ( https://pto-membership-dues-80131.cheddarup.com). A $1.40 fee will be applied upon checkout. If you would like to pay with cash or check, those are acceptable options. You can send it in with your child.
For those who would like to participate on the executive board, the secretary position is available; please consider joining us!
