FAQ

Do I attend both high school and college graduation ceremonies?
All students that meet NC Graduation Requirements will walk at the 2026 High School Graduation ceremony on May 16th at 4pm. Only students that have completed their Medical Assistant or Associate's Degree pathways will attend the Cabarrus College graduation ceremony also.

If I am staying at CHSI for a 13th year, do I get to participate in high school graduation?
Mrs. Short has gotten additional clarification on this question because students and families have many questions and rightly so. If you are staying at CHSI/CCHS for a 13th (or beyond) year, you will get to participate in our CHSI HS graduation ceremony with your class. You will receive a letter from Mrs. Short that states you have completed all of your high school graduation requirements on graduation day in your diploma cover.

If I am staying for a 13th year, why can't I get the actual diploma at high school graduation?
In order for the state to pay for your 13th year, your official diploma will be given to you once you complete your time at Cabarrus College. If we give you the official diploma, the state will not pay for the 13th year of college. Even though you do not receive the paper diploma, you have still met all of the requirements for a high school diploma and can obtain a job that requires a high school diploma. All early colleges follow the same protocols. Please call CHSI if you have any questions or need clarification about this issue.

If I finish my degree after year 13/14/15, when do I walk in a college graduation ceremony?
You will walk in your college graduation ceremony once you have completed all of the requirements for your degree at Cabarrus College. You do not walk again at a high school ceremony because you have already done that with your cohort.

Why is high school and college graduation ceremonies on the same day?
Cabarrus County Schools and Cabarrus College set the dates of graduation ceremonies, respectively. The positive side of them being on the same day is that family that is visiting from out of town can attend both.
