Principal's Message
shortpicture
Greetings Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We look forward to several upcoming events this week. Monday, we take our 9/10th graders to UNCC to explore college life. On Tuesday, we have PreACT testing for our 10th graders. Please make sure that if you have a 10th grader, they get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast, and charge laptops for Tuesday.

We are winding down 1st quarter. Please check your student's grades and reach out to teachers with any questions.

Please reach out to us at CHSI if we can help answer any questions for you.

In partnership,
Ashley Short

Important Dates
October 7: 9th and 10th grade field trip to UNCC for a college campus tour.

October 8: PreACT (mandatory for all 10th graders) We will have a remote day for 9th graders and only college classes for 11th graders. 11th Graders cannot access CHSI because the entire campus will be used for testing. 11th graders can attend for their college classes only and flex in and out this day.

October 11: End of 1st Quarter

October 14 & 15: Staff Development (No school for students at CHSI)

October 25: PSAT (optional for Juniors) We will have a remote day for 9th/10th this day at CHSI

PreACT (mandatory for all 10th Graders) October 8th
On October 8th for the PreACT, 10th grade students need to bring:
  • their computer - fully charged
  • charging cable
  • pencils (for the math section) to write on scratch paper

We will not be providing calculators since there is a digital pop-up function on the test. Students will need to power off their cellphones for the entirety of the exam.

10th graders can leave after the exam if they drive or have car transportation. We estimate testing to be over around 12:30. Students must stay until all testing is finished.

If a student needs bus transportation, they can stay at CHSI and leave at 4pm on the bus.

Help Us with Student Pickup
helpushelpyou
This is a reminder that parents must come through parent drive at CHSI to pickup students in the afternoon. Please do not park at Cabarrus College and have your student walk over. The college does not allow this and it is a safety issue. We do not want to create an issue in the relationship between the high school and college. We will hold students at parent drive until you come through the line to pick them up. CHSI staff are not trying to be difficult. We are only trying to hold up our agreement with Cabarrus College.

We have cleared out our parent drive line this week by 4:02pm. We will continue dismissing car riders at 3:50 to clear our parent traffic out as much as possible so we can roll busses on time to make it to the depot.

Junior Flexing Updates
Those of you that have submitted an updated Flex form, can start flexing in and out on Monday. Remember, if your flex time is after 10am, you must complete attendance for that day on the online attendance form. It is on our school webpage under students and is called "Junior Attendance." When you leave for the day, you must report to CHSI to sign out with Ms. Clay.

Here is a link to online attendance so you can bookmark or link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdDEUYSjTTp6BzNIKuDvS1D8rkQ0FeFccIQ16CAaxzw6EGuRQ/viewform
I would recommend that if you are arriving after 10am, that you set an alarm on those days to remind yourself to do attendance online.

**If you forget to do online attendance but come later in the day (in-person at CHSI) to correct the attendance, you will be marked as TARDY. No exceptions. On the 4th tardy, you will receive an unexcused absence and your flex privileges can be revoked. We understand this is a new procedure, so after the first week, tardies will start if you forget.

If your school arrival time is before 10am, you must come into CHSI and sign in on the paper attendance sheet to be marked present. If you forget to sign in on the paper attendance, you will be marked tardy. On the 4th tardy it will be an absence, and you can have your flex privileges revoked. As always, if you are placed on academic probation, all flex privileges can be revoked.

  • Please understand that attendance is a state law, and we will be in violation if we do not properly report attendance. We will adhere to these guidelines.

Message from Mrs. Louallen, Early College Liason
Mikahla Hammons Louallen
Parents/Students,
I created an Office Hour Calendar for the Fall semester (see attached). I will share this with 10th grade via their CCS105 Canvas Course and all students via the Early College Student Resource Center. While I am teaching CCS105 in the first 7 weeks, I will only one day/time each week for all students (regardless of grade level) to meet with me. Beginning mid-October, I will have office hours three days a week for all students to meet with me. If students need to meet with me outside my designated office hours, they need to schedule a meeting with me using the link in my email signature. My CCS105 office hours Tuesday-Friday from 2-2:30pm will occur at the college (office 127), but I would like to host my Monday office hours in the DEN if possible.

Schedule a Meeting with me:

All inquiries from students and parents should be sent to mikahla.louallen@cabarruscollege.edu (not Atrium Health). If students wish to schedule a meeting with the Liaison, an updated link is included below.

9th Grade Forms

Below are the links for the forms that 9th grade students / families were asked to complete by Friday, August 30th, but I am still missing over half the cohort. Until this is complete, I cannot create their college accounts in our system.

Exxat enrollment requirements
11th grade students Exxat requirement were due Friday, August 30th and as of this morning, 23 students are not compliant. Majority of students have not submitted the 2 dose Meningococcal Conjugate (MenACWY) vaccine requirement, which is new this year and was discussed at open house. Others need to have their flu shot updated as this is an annual requirement.

10th graders have until December 15th to submit their Exxat enrollment requirements (15 total). Their accounts are connected to their K12 email address (all accounts have been activated) so it is just a matter of uploading their documents into the portal. Students can access the portal at https://prism.exxat.com/. We hope to plan an EXXAT virtual session soon to answer any questions or concerns that families may have.
